The adidas Futurecraft trainer is 100 percent biodegradable and made from natural products. The global sportswear brand has partnered with the German biotech company AMSilk to create the first premium innovation footwear made using silk biopolymers. This material offers a unique combination of properties that enable it to perform just as well as their traditional trainers. They are 15 percent lighter in weight than conventional fibres as well as having the potential to be the strongest fully natural material. As thelargest sports clothing manufacturer in Europe and the second largest in the world, having this sort of influence means that more can be done to developinnovative new products with sustainable solutions to get the whole fashion world talking.

The adidas ( @adidas)Futurecraft Biofabric prototype shoe features an upper made from 100 percent Biosteel fibre, a nature-based and completely biodegradable high-performance fibre. The Biosteel is created by fermenting natural carbon sources and converting them into a white powder. This is a material which has already been used in the beauty and medical products, including surgical meshes and implants.
The shoe was unveiled at the renowned Biofabricate Conference in New York as adidas and AMSilk announce a partnership that will explore the use of Biosteel fiber in performance products on a larger scale.
Jens Klein, CEO of AMSilk, said: The sports shoes which have been developed together with adidas are the first products worldwide with a high-performance material made of nature-identical silk biopolymers.With this development we are setting new standards regarding the functionality of renewable textiles.”

The release of the adidas Futurecraft Biofabric shoe comes in a year where adidas has released a series of products that have pushed the boundaries of sneaker innovation.
