Arsenal star seeks international goals as his bio-chem company buys Segetis.

Mathieu-FlaminiThe challenge of Messi, Neymar, Suarez and co. may have proved too strong for Mathieu Flamini this week in Arsenals defeat to Barcelona, but February isnt proving all bad for the French midfielder with the unlikely bio-tech businessmans company GFBiochemicals making a bold move into the US market. The Italian-Dutch company is the worlds largest producer of levulinic acid, a platform chemical with significant potential, at commercial scale and in acquiring the assets and intellectual properties of Segetis, the main levulinic acid derivatives producer in the US market it marks a major step forward. The acquisition allows GFBiochemicals to become a producer of a wide range of bio-based products using levulinic acid and is part of the companys strategic plan to establish a direct presence in USA as GFBiochemicals Americas.

By acquiring Segetis, GFBiochemicals gains their expertise, including over 250 patents applications worldwide and their production plant based in Minnesota (USA). Founded in 2008, by the Arsenal FC and former AC Milan and France midfielder Mathieu Flamini (@Matflam)alongside business partner Pasquale Granata, the involvement of the soccer star was kept secret until 2015.

The company has a unique set of proprietary technologies that allow levulinic acid and formic acid production with a one-step process directly from a wide range of cellulosic feedstock.

Levulinic acid is a platform chemical with significant potential to replace petroleum-based products in the chemical and biofuel sectors plus plastics and food preservatives. Segetis has been using its chemicals in plastics, perfumes and detergents.
