Another busy day in Berlin where  the SynBio Markets 2019 conference has just concluded.

The conference gathered biotechnology specialists, academics, industry representatives, young innovators.

“We need DNA to create biological solutions to fight hunger and disease.”  – Emily Leproust, CEO at Twist Bioscience.

“Synthetic biology is a mindset, not just an industry.” – Nicolas Krink, Co-Founder at German Association for Synthetic Biology (GASB).

“We are all here because we are excited about synbio. If we don’t do something with it, the potential problems that could otherwise be solved would not be.”  – Markus Gershater, Chief Scientific Officer at Synthace.

“Currently, we are working with 50 different organisms.”-  Jess Leber, Director of Business Development at Ginkgo.

“Government support (here in Europe) is often project based. This is dangerous! It would be far better for them to take an angel investor approach.” – Karim Engelmark Cassimjee, CEO, EnginZyme

“European companies don’t have access to capital the way that companies in the USA do… I wish there was more here in Europe.” – Jess Leber, Director of Business Development at Ginkgo.

“Cell economics will determine what will become the gold standard of cell-based meat production.” – Daan Luining, CTO at Meatable.
