Sustainability is one of Clariants five strategic pillars. This new partnership with Neste is a significant milestone in providing a sustainable future for Clariant and its customers.
Swiss speciality chemicals provider Clariant has teamed up with Finnish renewable chemicals specialist Neste to develop and make new sustainable materials. The initial phase of the partnership will see the two companies look to replace the fossil-based ethylene and propylene used in Clariants hot-melt adhesives, with monomers derived from renewable feedstock.
This initiative is enabled by turning Nestes renewable hydrocarbons produced 100% from renewable raw materials, such as waste and residue fats and oils as well as vegetable oils into ethylene and propylene.
In a later phase, the companies will also develop other sustainable additive solutions derived from renewable raw materials for plastics and coatings applications.
Christian Kohlpaintner, member of Clariants (@clariant) executive committee, said: Sustainability is one of Clariants five strategic pillars. This new partnership with Neste (@NesteGlobal) is a significant milestone in providing a sustainable future for Clariant and its customers.
Through the partnership with Neste, Clariant plans to offer sustainable polyolefin solutions derived from renewable hydrocarbons.
Peter Vanacker, chief executive of Neste, added: Combining Clariants in-depth know-how in the varying applications of adhesives, plastics and coatings, and Nestes extensive knowledge and experience in working with bio-based materials to produce a variety of drop-in renewable solutions, enables both companies to develop their sustainable material offering to provide maximum added value not only to sustainable brands in varying industries, but also to their customers.
