Nouryon appoints new Chief Human Resource Officer.
Nouryon has named Elsbeth Janmaat as its new Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), effective September 1, 2019.
“Elsbeth joins us at a crucial moment; we are preparing the ground for even better performance and making Nouryon a leader in specialty chemicals with a strong competitive edge,” said Nouryon CEO Charlie Shaver. “She brings valuable experience and will play a defining role in the company’s transformation process. I look forward to working with her.”
Janmaat said: “I am really looking forward to joining Nouryon at this exciting moment and working together with the company leadership and whole organisation on the transformation for a sustainable future.”
Janmaat brings more than 25 years of human resources experience to Nouryon. She joins the company from Royal Vopak where she served as Global Human Resource Director. Prior to Vopak, she worked for FrieslandCampina and Shell in various HR positions.
Avantium’s CFO to step down at end of 2019.
Dutch renewable chemicals company Avantium has announced that Frank Roerink, Chief Financial Officer and member of the Management Board, will leave the company at the end of 2019.
In a statement, the company said that he will continue to fulfil his responsibilities for the remainder of the year. This will allow the company to start looking for a successor.
Kees Verhaar, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, said: “As Avantium enters the next chapter of executing its strategy to commercialise its renewable chemical technologies, we concluded that this phase requires a different composition of the Management Board. For more than twelve years, Frank has played a vital role in building Avantium as a leading company in renewable chemistry.
“As our CFO, he was invaluable in securing solid funding needed for the investments towards a fossil-free world and preparing the company for its successful listing in 2017. We are looking forward to continuing the good cooperation and realizing further achievements in the coming period. On behalf of all of us at Avantium, I would like to thank him and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Deinove appoints new member to board of directors.
Deinove, a French biotech company that uses a disruptive approach to develop innovative antibiotics and bio-based active ingredients for cosmetics and nutrition, announced the appointment of Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger as a member of the Board of Directors.
Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger has more than 30 years of experience in product development for the beauty industry, for brands with an international outlook.
According to Deinove, she is highly competent in the development of ingredients for the cosmetic, food, nutrition and wellness industries. She has worked for various prestigious brands, notably within the L’Oréal and Coty Groups where she has led numerous innovation projects. In 2012, she founded The Smell & Taste Lab, a consulting company specialized in innovation and marketing for cosmetics, nutrition and well-being.
Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger holds a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from ESCOM (École Supérieure de Chimie Organique et Minérale).
The Shareholders’ Meeting of Deinove, held on May 20th, ratified the appointment of Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger as a member of the Board of Directors, replacing Mr. Michaël CARLOS. She will hold office for the remainder of her predecessor’s term of office, i.e. until the general meeting called to approve the financial statements for the 2019 financial year.
Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger is a member of the Swiss Women Directors’ Circle and APIA Switzerland (Associate Independent Professional Directors).
Anne Abriat-Hemmendinger said: “I am very interested in Deinove ‘s extremely innovative approach to create new active ingredients from the untapped potential of bacteria. I am delighted to put my expertise at the service of the company’s ambitions. ”
Enerkem appoints new CEO.
Enerkem, a Canadian company that produces biofuels from waste, has announced that it has appointed Dominique Boies as its CEO and CFO.
Boies joined the company in January 2017 as Executive Vice-President and CFO. In January 2018, upon the retirement of Enerkem CEO and co-founder, Vincent Chornet, for health reasons, Boies was named action CEO, while maintaining his role as CFO. Cornet died on 26 June following along and courageous battle against his illness.
Boies has more than 20 years of experience in corporate strategy, operations and financing. Prior to joining Enerkem, he served as Executive Vice-President and CFO at Rona, and among other accomplishments led the company’s turnaround as well as the $3.2bn transaction that resulted in the acquisition of RONA by Lowe’s. Prior to this, Boies held various senior executive positions at RBC Royal Bank and at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Quebec. Boies holds a master’s degree in finance from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
Enerkem also said that its Board of Directors announced the return of Joshua Ruch as Chair of the Board. Ruch, who had served in this position since 2011, had relinquished this position.
“The appointment of Dominique Boies sends a clear signal of continuity at Enerkem,” Ruch said.
He added: “Since his arrival, he has played a key role in planning and executing on the company’s strategy, closing various rounds of financing and advancing our activities with strategic partners.
“During his time as acting CEO, Dominique showed great leadership in advancing the company and further establishing our position as the cutting-edge technology leader in the waste to biofuels and renewable chemicals arena.”
